As a division of The Blackhawk Group, Blackhawk is dedicated to enhancing the flying experience through innovative solutions. Our recent collaboration with AVEX to develop the XP66D Engine+ Upgrade for the TBM 700 series is a testament to this commitment. By leveraging our combined expertise in engine upgrades and TBM aircraft, we’ve created a comprehensive solution that aligns perfectly with The Blackhawk Group‘s mission of being the premier services provider for light turbine-powered aircraft.
A Pilot-Driven Initiative
At Blackhawk, we understand that aircraft ownership is more than a transaction. It’s a passion, a source of joy, and an essential tool for many. Whether you fly for work or pleasure, your aircraft is an important part of your life. That’s why we’re committed to delivering solutions that truly enhance the flying experience. Investing in this upgrade is not just about improving your aircraft’s performance. It’s also about protecting your investment. A more powerful and efficient aircraft is likely to have a higher resale value, making it a smart long-term decision.
Our decision to develop the XP66D Engine+ Upgrade was based on a thorough analysis of market demand, pilot preferences, and the potential benefits for TBM 700 series owners. By understanding the specific needs and desires of our customers, we were able to create a solution that delivers real value.
The XP66D Engine+ Upgrade equips the aircraft with the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-66D engine, offering significant enhancements in horsepower, climb rate, cruise speed, and overall performance. This upgrade is designed to advance the TBM 700 series, making it comparable to the TBM 850, while providing owners with a more enjoyable and efficient flying experience.
To showcase the capabilities of the XP66D Engine+ Upgrade, Blackhawk and AVEX prepared a 2004 TBM 700C2 as a testbed aircraft. This aircraft was a standout at EAA AirVenture 2024, attracting significant attention from visitors. Featuring a new Garmin panel, a refreshed interior, and a custom paint scheme, the testbed aircraft provided a tangible demonstration of the upgrade’s potential. The positive response from attendees further solidified our belief in the transformative power of this engine upgrade.
Expanding the Upgrade Options
The development and certification process for the 700C2 is currently underway and is expected to take approximately 18 months. Once this initial STC is obtained, we will pursue additional approvals to include the 700A and 700B models. This strategic approach will allow us to offer the XP66D Engine+ Upgrade to a wider range of TBM owners, providing them with the same performance benefits and increased efficiency.
As we continue to make progress towards STC approval, we encourage you to stay tuned for updates. We’ll be sharing key milestones and announcements to keep you informed. Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram to see what happens next!
